Internships and Tier 4 Visa
We want your study abroad experience in London to be as valuable as possible. We offer all of our International Study Abroad students the chance to undertake a credit-earning internship, at a location that is tailored for you. This is a great chance to put international work experience on your CV.
To apply for one of our credit-earning internships you will need to submit the following documents, in addition to completing your Study Abroad application:
- Internship Application Form
- A current resume
- A cover letter, explaining why you are looking to gain experience in that field
- One professional reference
- One academic reference
- Immigration Information Form (You can find this in our CAS pages)
The internship application deadlines are:
- Autumn 2019 - 1st June 2019
- Spring 2020 - 18th October 2019
- Summer 2020 - 31st March 2020
As an international student who is undertaking an internship whilst at LSBU you will need to obtain a Tier 4 (General) visa. You will also need to follow these processes if you are studying at LSBU for more than 6 months.
If you are studying in the UK for less than 6 months, and not undertaking an internship during those 6 months you will enter the UK on a short-term study visa. Find information about this on our Entry Clearance visa page.
In order to obtain a Tier 4 (General) visa you must complete the following steps:
- Apply for an internship before the internship deadline, providing all documents listed on the application checklist
- Accept your offer of study, and submit documents required to receive a CAS
- Receive your CAS
- Complete a Tier 4 (General) application
For full information about visa processes, please visit our Entry Clearance visa page.
If you have any questions about your visa, please email the Study Abroad Team.

It’s really important that the modules you take whilst at LSBU transfer back to your home institution when you have completed your Study Abroad semester. Make sure you are liaising closely with your home university to ensure that your modules are approved before you arrive in London. If you require any syllabi, please get in touch with the Study Abroad team.
Once you have completed the module selection form, please scan and return it via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Make sure you speak to your home institution to ensure you know how you are going to finance your semester in London. For a guide to your living expenses, please click here. Also, talk to your bank! Find out the fees that you will be charged for using your bank account whilst abroad. And make sure that you will be able to use it whilst you’re abroad! How will the exchange rate be decided?
You’ll be living and studying in the heart of London – make sure you look up exactly where our neighbourhood Elephant and Castle is before you arrive so you know just how close you are to so many of London’s greatest landmarks. See the map here!
If you are new to London or the UK, you might want one of our ‘buddies’ to help you settle in. To find out more about our Buddies scheme, please click here.
