Information for Visitors and Alumni
On this page:
How to access LSBU libraries if you are
- A former LSBU student
- A student or staff member at another UK university
- A student at a London further education college or sixth-form
- A member of the public
How to log into your LSBU library account
If you are a former LSBU student you can apply for an Access Card which will grant you access to many of LSBU’s facilities after you graduate. The Access Card is free, but there is also a paid option (£25 per year) which allows you to borrow books from the library. For more information see the LSBU Alumni Association website.
What do I get with a free Access Card?
- Reference use of LSBU libraries
- Access to limited electronic resources within the library buildings via the library catalogue PCs. These must only be used for personal interest and not for commercial purposes
- Facilities for printing (if you have independent internet access), copying and scanning
What do I get with a paid Access Card?
- As above, plus the right to borrow 5 books from the library
You will not have access to LSBU Wi-Fi unless you are a current member of an institution that provides Eduroam internet access. Computers with internet access are available for you to use at the Learning Resources Centre.
E-resources which Alumni can access can be found here: http://www1.lsbu.ac.uk/library/htm/visitorsresources.shtml
If you are a student or staff member at another UK university you may be able to access LSBU’s libraries by joining the SCONUL Access Scheme. Full-time undergraduates can access the library on a reference only basis, but postgraduates, part-time undergraduates, distance learners, and academic staff can borrow up to 4 books.
You will also have access to:
- Limited electronic resources within the library buildings via the library catalogue PCs
- Printing (if you have independent internet access), copying and scanning
You will not have access to LSBU Wi-Fi unless you are a current member of an institution that provides Eduroam internet access.
You will need to apply online via the SCONUL Access website. When you come to the library for the first time please bring your approval email, your student ID and a passport photo. During vacation periods you can access LSBU libraries for reference only using just your own student ID under the SCONUL Vacation Access scheme.
Some Further Education and sixth-form students in London may be able to join the Access LSBU scheme. This allows you to borrow 1 book and access our PCs and e-resources. You should check with your school or college to see if they are part of this scheme.
Reference access to members of the public not covered by the schemes listed above is at the discretion of the site manager. Requests for access must be made in advance using the Reference Only form which is available here. After completing and signing the form, please return it to the site library you wish to access. Access to members of the public is limited due to existing pressure on our resources and space from LSBU students - please give us as much detail as you can of your particular educational need to use our library.
